Exploring a Lottia gigantea gene

Start in Ensembl Metazoa and select the Lottia gigantea genome.

(a) What GO: biological process terms and GO: molecular function terms are associated with the LotgiG154014 gene?

(b) Go to the transcript tab for the only transcript, LotgiT154014. How long is the transcript? How long is the protein it encodes? What is the UniProt ID for the encoded protein?

(c) What domain(s) can be found in the protein product of this transcript? How many different domain prediction methods agree with each of these domain(s)?

(a) Go to metazoa.ensembl.org. Select Lottia gigantea from the drop-down list of species.

Type LotgiG154014 and click on the gene name link LotgiG154014. Click on GO: biological process and GO: molecular function in the side menu.

LotgiG154014 is linked to carbohydrate metabolic process and hydrolase activity.

(b) Click on the transcript named LotgiT154014 (or on the Transcript tab).

LotgiG154014 is 1812 bp in length. The protein it encodes is 603aa. The UniProt ID for the protein is V4A6R1.

(c) Click on either Protein Summary or Domains & features in the left hand menu to see graphically or as a table respectively.

A glycoside hydrolase domain is identified by four domain prediction methods. A fibronectin type III-like domain is identified by two and an immunoglobulin-like fold identified by one.
