BioMart: genes associated with obesity
The following genes have been reported to be associated with susceptibility to obesity in humans: GHRL, CARTPT, PCSK1, ADRB2, ADRB3, UCP2, MC3R (note: these are official HGNC gene names in human).
Can you get the corresponding Ensembl gene IDs, chromosome locations (i.e. chromosome number, start and end coordinates) and MIM morbid description for these genes?
Go to the Ensembl main page and click on BioMart. Choose the ENSEMBL Genes database. Choose the Homo sapiens genes dataset.
Click on Filters in the left panel. Expand the GENE section by clicking on the + box. In the ID list limit menu, choose Gene Names from the drop down and enter the list of IDs in the text box (either comma separated or as a list): GHRL, CARTPT, PCSK1, ADRB2, ADRB3, UCP2, MC3R
.
Count shows 7 genes.
Click on Attributes in the left panel. Select the Features in the attributes page. Expand the Gene section by clicking on the + box and then deselect Ensembl Transcript ID and the versioned IDs (keep the default choice of Ensembl gene ID) and add the following attributes: Chromosome name, Gene Start (bp) and Gene End (bp). Expand the section External by clicking on the + box and choose MIM Morbid Description from the list of options.
Click the Results button on the toolbar. Make sure you tick the box Unique results only. In order to view the full list of results, select View All rows as HTML (this should open up in a new tab in your browser). Alternatively click on the Go button to have the full table. You can also export all results to a file and also email these results to you directly from the BioMart web interface.
